  • We are pleased to announce that Melinda D. Zatkoff has joined Reising as an Associate. Zatkoff comes to our firm from Brinks Gilson & Lione where she was an Associate Attorney. Her experience includes foreign and domestic patent and trademark prosecution, infringement and clearance analysis, and agreement work. Zatkoff earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and a law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, magna cum laude.
  • Corey M. Beaubien was a speaker for a webinar Protecting Your Intellectual Property While Meeting the Challenges of 21st Century Cyber Threats. Beaubien discussed best practices for growing international companies to develop IP management plans and avoid common missteps. Other speakers included the IP Attaché for Southeast Asia of the USPTO, as well as a Senior Policy Advisor for Advanced Manufacturing and Fellow at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The U.S. Commercial Service, a trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration, hosted the webinar.
  • William F. Kolakowski recently worked with Brazilian counsel to secure confirmation from the Federal Court of Appeals in Brazil of a trial court decision finding that our client’s trademark rights had been infringed. The Brazilian courts delivered a comprehensive victory for our client issuing a decision enjoining the infringer from further use of our client’s trademark, cancelling the infringer’s own registration for the same trademark, and ordering the infringer to change its name.
  • Reising was a proud sponsor of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s 42nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Institute held at the historic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in July. Intellectual Property professionals from around the country came together to receive updates on patent, trademark, and copyright law, gain insights relating to litigation strategy from judges from both the federal court system and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), and learn about new initiatives and programs at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Reising attorneys Corey M. Beaubien, E. Colin Cicotte, Rick Hoffmann, Stefan Osterbur, Colleen N. Shovlin, Shannon K. Smith and Jim D. Stevens attended the conference.
  • The Intellectual Property Law Section (IPLS) of the State Bar of Michigan elected Reising attorney E. Colin Cicotte to a council member position at the IPLS annual meeting held on Mackinac Island in July. The IPLS studies intellectual property law topics and hosts conferences devoted to educating state bar members about these topics. Colin will serve a three-year term.
  • The Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) Association recently published its Top 300 Organization Granted U.S. Patents in 2015. Among the list were a number of clients Reising is proud to partner with.
